Lot 3566

1873 Indian Head Cent. NGC graded MS-65 Red. Open 3. Well struck. Outstanding copper red color beams across radiant surfaces. Additionally, this date is easier said than done to find fully struck. The centers pack full detail into the design from a decidedly precision strike. Only some of the denticles on the lower reverse could be said to be less than full. Pop 6; 1 finer in 66.

The Closed 3 date style is used on the early dies of 1873 made prior to Chief Coiner A.L. Snowden's complaint on January 18th regarding the similarities of the look of the date to 1878. Most later issues were of the Open 3 variety, as in this desirable specimen!
Estimated Value $3,800 - 4,000.
