1915-S Panama-Pacific Gold Dollar. PCGS graded MS-66 PQ. CAC Approved. Housed in an Old Green Holder. A frosty gem example with lovely gold toning. Only 15,000 pieces struck. The 1915-S Panama-Pacific Exposition was held at a time in our nation's history when the art world was casting off the constriction of its dull, Victorian ways. All manner of modernistic designs were tried on coinage. Coins struck for the exposition, like the Gold Dollar offered here, catch the essence of this revolution. As an alternative to perfectly balanced devices, Charles Keck, the coin's creator, set his Panama Canal workman off to one side. Opposite the portrait, two concentric arcs give identify the issuer. The reverse maintain the trend and is a far cry from anything attempted before in American numismatics. A pair of dolphins frolic above and below the central denomination eliciting a happy feel to the artist's trim design. Pop 734; 48 finer in 67 (PCGS # 7449) .
Estimated Value $2,000 - 2,200.

Realized $2,300
