Lot 1222

1853 N-3 R1 PCGS graded MS64 Brown. Repunched 1. Lustrous light greenish olive brown. Satiny mint frost covers the planchet. Excellent eye appeal with only a few trivial marks. The notable feature of this example is a minor planchet clip that weakens the dentils at star 12 and the opposing ones at AM. E-MDS, die state a late. The fine repunching over the base of the 1 remains visible. Our grade is MS62, tied for CC#10 in the Grellman census. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. Pop 1; none finer at PCGS in BN.
Estimated Value $300-UP.
Ex Stack's 3/11/98:184-Martin Paul-McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Superior 5/99:1602.
