Lot 59

1817 Coronet Head Cent. PCGS graded MS-62 Brown. Lustrous reddish steel and olive brown, the reverse displaying more of the reddish tone that the obverse. (A good candidate for a color set of middle date cents.) No notable marks, just a subtle suggestion of rub on the highest points. M-LDS. The always present die crack that connects stars 1-3 is obvious and the obverse dentils are nearly gone while the dentils on the reverse, while dull, are nearly complete. A product of two well-used dies (N-15 obverse, later, mated with the reverse of N-4, later, and N-5, earlier). Most likely from the Randall Hoard of mint state cents. Our grade is AU58. Pop 1; 1 in 63; 1 in 65. Only 4 graded at PCGS for the variety. DWH #0431 (PCGS # 36589) .
Estimated Value $300-UP.
Ex John D. Wright 7/4/84.
