Lot 281

1829 N-4 R4 VF20. VF-20. Frosty steel brown with small spots of darker steel brown toning in the field before the portrait. Satiny mint luster covers the protected areas, especially on the reverse where the surfaces are consistent with a cent grading at least EF40. In fact, there is very little wear on either side, but the usual weak strike makes grading very difficult. LDS. The die crack from the dentils through R in AMERICA to the wreath is strong and all the obverse dentil crumbles mentioned by Wright are obvious. The 829 and most of the stars show fine but clear doubling from die bounce. DWH #3419.
Estimated Value $100-UP.
Ex Chris McCawley, 2007 EAC Sale, McCawley & Grellman Auctions 4/28/07:409.
