Lot 2344

Man. Acilius Glabrio, moneyer. AR Denarius minted at Rome, c. 49 BC. Laureate head right of Salus. Reverse: Valetudo (Salus) standing left, holding snake. Acilia 8; Cr. 442/1a; Syd. 922. Superb Extremely Fine, beautifully toned in iridescent hues of blue and orange.

While the Crawford and Sydenham references have been out of print for years, a copy of Seaby's Roman Silver Coins, volume I, may be found at a very modest sum. In RSC, Republican denarii are arranged alphabetically in "family" or gens order, mentioned first among the references in this catalogue (like Acilia 8 being the eighth chronological type of the Acilia family line of moneyers).
Estimated Value $250 - 300.

Realized $414
