Macedon, Olynthos, Chalkidian League, 420-355 BC. AR Tetradrachm (14.46 g). Laureate head right of Apollo. Reverse: Kithara with six strings; below, magistrate's name. SNG ANS 496; Dewing 1071. Slight reverse roughness. NGC graded Choice AU: Strike 4/5; Surface 4/5. Fine Style, encrustation. An outstanding specimen with original patina intact.
One of the classic rarities of ancient Greek coinage and likely unearthed at the excavations at Olynthos in the late 1920s-30s.
