Lot 633

1848 N-41 R1. NGC graded MS-65 Brown. Lustrous light olive and bluish steel brown with traces of mint color showing on the obverse while 10% of the reverse shows mint red. Satiny mint frost covers the planchet and this cent offers excellent eye appeal. A tiny nick on the front edge of the neck and a faint diagonal hairline under star 2 are the best identifying marks. Scarce EDS, die state a, before crumbling forms on the left side of the second 8. Our grade is MS63, tied for CC#3 overall but finest of the early state in the Grellman census.
Estimated Value $500-UP.
From the Phyllis Thompson collection.
