Lot 631

1848 N-38 R3. MS-60. Frosty chocolate and steel with hints of faded mint color in some of the protected areas, mostly on the reverse. The surfaces are satiny and the eye appeal is very nice for the grade. The only marks are a very thin nick over star 2 and tiny planchet chips that cover the outer edge of the rim at the top of the reverse, as struck. EDS, die state a. The fine die lines on the reverse are clear, including the one through the D in UNITED. CC#3 in the Grellman census with the next finest grading only AU50.
Estimated Value $800-UP.
Ex Tom Reynolds, Bowers & Merena 11/9/06:305 (via Don Valenziano)-Phyllis Thompson.

Realized $1,495
