Lot 602

1848 N-2 R2. NGC graded MS-65 Brown. Repunched 18. Lustrous light olive brown with subtle overtones of light bluish steel and 15% of the mint red remaining. A choice cent except for the strike, which is weak on the coronet over LIB, along the top of the head, and on several leaves in the wreath. The only marks are a shallow planchet flake at the dentils under star 1 and a very faint hairline scratch that meanders across the lower part of the reverse even with the top of the ribbon loop. E-MDS, die state b. The points down from the bottom of the E in ONE are clear (Reiver's old #45) and minor crumbling shows on the left side of the second 8. Our grade is MS60+, CC#8 in the Grellman census.
Estimated Value $500-UP.
