Lot 495

1842 N-2 R1. MS-60. Small Date. Lustrous golden light olive. Satiny and very attractive, but this piece may have been lightly dipped long ago and allowed to retone naturally. The only marks are a pair of tiny planchet flakes on the coronet over LIB and a streak of microscopic planchet flakes from TA in STATES across to CA in AMERICA, all as struck. Otherwise the surfaces are satiny and essentially flawless. LDS, die state d. The die lines and defects under the date are gone and the reverse is very lightly cracked to the bottom of the C in CENT. Tied for CC#12.
Estimated Value $400-UP.
Ex McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Superior 9/03:889-Chris McCawley 12/03-Phyllis Thompson.
