Lot 482

1840 N-9 R3. PCGS graded MS-63 Brown. Large Date. Frosty light chocolate brown with hints of bluish steel toning in protected areas. Satiny mint luster covers the fields and protected areas. Only two defects are notable on this otherwise choice example: a small carbon spot in the dentils above star 5 and a narrow planchet void at the bottom of the reverse (as struck). Just a hint of friction on the highest points from mint state. M-LDS, die state d, with a fine die crack that bisects the obverse from the dentils just below star 4 to the dentils right of star 11. Our grade is AU58 net AU50+ for the planchet void, tied for CC#9. Comes with a very nice provenance.
Estimated Value $400-UP.
