Lot 2482

1904 $20. NGC graded MS-63. Beautiful cartwheel luster. Something of a high-water mark was reached in the production of double eagles at the two mints in 1904 (over 11 million pieces). Never again would so many be struck, although in 1928, the number came close (8.8 million). In those days, $220 million was a lot of gold. (Comparable value at the time this is being cataloged, with gold hovering around $1200 an ounce, is $13.2 billion!).
Estimated Value $2,200 - 2,300.

Realized $1,926
