1875-S $20 Liberty. PCGS graded MS-62. CAC Approved. Well struck with remarkably clean surfaces for this numerical grade, thus a Premium Quality coin in addition to the CAC green label. Lovely golden toning adds to its appeal. To say this is an exciting example of this issue with highly lustrous and frosty yellow gold surfaces would be stating the obvious. For it has exceptional aesthetic appeal. Sharply struck with strong obverse and reverse design features. Close examination will reveal almost no abrasions. We note a single light mark below Liberty's eye and another by the first T in TWENTY on the reverse, however, a quick glance suggests a coin approaching a higher grade quality. If graded separately, the reverse of this example would easily qualify for finer than MS62. The reverse of this example has a small, bold mintmark centered over the right serif of N, and with intermittent cracks through the entire legend.

As a design type, the Type 2 Liberty double eagles are clearly the rarest in Mint State grades, followed by the Type 2 issue. The commoner Type 3 coins are where the largest Mint State numbers are found, this Type 2 is clearly a small population. Consider finally the 1875-S population: Pop 100; 17 finer (PCGS # 8975) .
Estimated Value $16,000 - 17,000.
