1880-O Morgan Dollar. PCGS graded MS-64 Deep Mirror Prooflike. Light grey in color with excellent contrast. A blazing beauty of a deep mirror O-mint coin! The satiny devices are alight with bright volatile frosted luster that looks as though it would like nothing better than to explode with a loud bang. Against this reside smooth mirrors that are almost devoid of marks. Well struck for the date, as well, and easily matching or surpassing the few others in this remarkable grade. (For the most part, 1880-O silver dollars were struck from lustrous, not prooflike dies. We can only suppose this is an early strike from new dies, which tend to be prooflike for the first 50 or 100 impressions before leaving the reflective quality behind.) Pop 40; 1 better in 65 DMPL (PCGS # 97115) .
Estimated Value $5,000 - 6,000.
