Lot 226

Victorian Antique Portable Writing Desk. Burlwood with brass embellishments and a brass nameplate that was never engraved. Measurements are 9 in. tall x 20½ in. wide x 12 in. deep. The box opens up to reveal a green felt covered writing surface which folds out and has storage below for papers/writing materials, and three nanrrow drawers (pulls are gone). Just above the desk portion are five compartments, four small and one for pens, as well as a narrow compartment which runs the width of the desk and holds a 19 in. (¾ in. in diameter) polished stick. The inside of the top of the desk, held with a brass fastener, lets down to two accordion-type files. Keys are missing, there is a dent across the top of the desk, and there are a few scuffs here and there. The desk, weighing 20 lbs, 4.5 oz., is from the days when a gentleman had valets and porters to worry about getting about with such a heavy item.
Estimated Value $300 - 400.

Realized $294
