Caruso, Enrico (1873-1921) World-famous Italian tenor. Caricature Inscribed and Signed, "To dear Buzzi-Peccia…Enrico Caruso New York 1906," and signed again at the lower edge with a huge signature, 5 x 3 in. Caruso cut out the back of a postcard and inlaid his sketch to make his own picture postcard. The caricature is of Caruso and Buzzi-Peccia, who was a gifted song composer and vocal teacher of Caruso's wife Dorothy, as well as of Alma Gluck and Speranza d'Alghieri. This caricature was presented to Speranza d'Alghieri, who was sometimes Caruso's Amneris when performing Aida at the Metropolitan Opera. D'Alghieri was the stage name of Gladys Meta Allers Mersfelder, daughter of Dr. Henry Allers and Florence Saltonstall Allers, and mother of Anita Mersfelder Burris-Meyer, from whose estate this caricature came.
Estimated Value $1,500 - 2,000.
