The Empire of Thessalonica. John Comnenus-Ducas, 1237-1242. billion trachy (1.63g), Thessalonica. Winged bust of cherub (?) facing. Rev. Facing stg. figures of St. Demetrius, nimbate, on l., and John, crowned, on r., holding between them long staff with large letter B. Cf. DOC 25 (obv.) and 12 (rev.); cf. Sear-Bendall 2210/2198. Very Fine and apparently an unpublished combination of obv. and rev. types.
