Byzantine Empire. Maurice Tiberius with Constantina and Theodosius. follis or 40 nummi (14.73g), Cherson, 596-602. CErcwNOC, Maurice and the Empress Constantina, both nimbate, stg. facing side by side, the emperor holding gl. cr., the empress cruciform scepter. Rev. Large M with cross above, to l. of which stands Theodosius facing, nimbate, holding P-headed cross. DOC 297; MIB 159; Anokhin 315; Sear 603. Nearly Extremely Fine with chocolate brown patina, very rare.

An alternative attribution for these anonymous types is the reign of Justin II (565-578), in which case the empress depicted would be Sophia and the figure on reverse Tiberius II Constantine who was created Caesar in 574.
