Byzantine Empire. Justinian I, 527-565. follis or 40 nummi (9.81g), Ravenna, 563/4 (regnal year 37). Helmeted bust facing, holding gl. cr. and shield (?). Rev. Large M between ANNO and XXXVII, RAVEN/NA in ex. DOC 342; MIB 233; Sear 323. Fine and rare, with brown patina, overstruck on a 400-year-old as of Antoninus Pius whose head is faintly visible on reverse.
