Theodosius II, AD 402-450. Gold Solidus (4.4 g) minted at Constantinopolis in AD 424-5. Helmeted, pearl-diademed and cuirassed bust right of Theodosius II, holding spear and shield. Reverse: Theodosius enthroned and Valentinian standing facing, both in consular robes, holding mappa and cruciform sceptre; above and between them, a star. RIC 234. Well struck on a nice wide flan and perfectly centered. Some minor hairline scratches in the right obverse field. Scarce type. Nearly Extremely Fine.
