Lot 126

Marc Antony, d. 30 BC. AR Denarius minted at Gallia Transalpina and Cisalpina, 43 BC. Head right of Marc Antony; behind, lituus. Reverse: Laureate head right of Julius Caesar; behind, jug. Cr. 488/1; Syd 1165. Somewhat granular, mainly on the obverse. Nicely centered; Choice Very Fine.

The unusual style of these portraits is due to the mint place, as well as to the haste of minting coinage at the beginning of the Triumvirate in the autumn of 43 BC, when this coin was struck. The portrayals on this example are excellent for issue, especially that of Julius Caesar.
Estimated Value $1,500 - 2,000.

Realized $1,725
