Lot 1948

1872 Quarter Dollar Octagonal Liberty. Breen and Gillio-726. High Rarity 5. PCGS graded MS-64. Warm sunset golden toning here and there on both sides. Semi-reflective fields. The plate coin for the second edition of Breen-Gillio. Although dated 1872, we know from die evidence that this was actually struck in 1873. Called "Aged Head" in the 1935 sale of the Comstock collection, although there is really no noticeable difference between this and the other Frontier Liberty heads. Pop 5; none finer at PCGS (PCGS # 10553) .
Estimated Value $700 - 800.
Ex: Jay Roe Collection The Tom Kelly Collection.

Realized $1,035
