Lot 1218

1854 N-22 R4 PCGS graded MS64 Red & Brown. Dash From 4. Lustrous mint red faded to light olive and steel on the highpoints, two-thirds of the bright original mint color remaining. Great luster and eye appeal with only a few trivial marks. These include a very fine vertical hairline scratch right of star 6 and a couple tiny spots of darker toning under star 8. Shallow low spots cover much of the cheek and neck with an additional very shallow one under EN in CENT, as nearly always found on this variety. MDS, die state a late. The dash to the right from the top of the 4 is dull but visible. Called MS65 and tied for CC#1 in the Noyes census, his photo #30672. Our grade is MS64, tied for CC#2 in the Grellman census.
Estimated Value $400-UP.
Ex Henry C. Hines-Willard C. Blaisdell 9/76 (via Del Bland).
