Ecuador. 8 Escudos, 1845-Quito MV. Fr-7; KM-31. Republic. Flag-draped national arms with 8 - E at left and right. Reverse: Bare bust of Simon Bolivar to left with BOLIVAR on truncation of neck. Variety without the flag poles below the arms. This is the second variety of this very rare type. This type was not in the Eliasberg sale. An NGC graded EF-45 sold in our February 2008 sale for $33,000. This higher graded piece is among the finest known for the type. NGC graded AU-55.
