Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, Big Bopper - Autographs From the Winter Dance Party. Signatures of Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper, Ritchie Valens, Dion (of Dion and the Belmonts), and Frankie Sardo, on a 6x4" page torn from an autograph album, all obtained some time between January 23 and February, 1959, during the last tour of Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper (J.P. Richardson), and Richie Valens. The Winter Dance Party tour started in Chicago on January 23, 1959. Along with the three big stars were Dion and the Belmonts and Frankie Sardo; Sardo was not well known. After eleven dates throughout the Midwest, early in the morning of February 3, 1959, the three stars were killed in a plane crash just north of Clear Lake, Iowa, where they had played at the Surf Ballroom. The pilot of the light plane, Roger Peterson, was also killed. Don McLean wrote the song "American Pie" commemorating the lost of the stars "the day the music died."
Estimated Value $1,500 - 2,000.
