Lot 93

1820/19 N-3 R2 PCGS graded MS65RB. PCGS graded MS-65 Red & Brown. Small Overdate 20 over 19. Highly lustrous light steel brown with bluish steel overtones, especially on the reverse. Much original mint color remains, about a third on the obverse and 10% on the reverse. A speck of darker toning in the field close under the chin is the only notable defect, and it is trivial. Outstanding eye appeal. EDS with remnants of the undertype 9 visible under the 0. The undertype 1 below the 2 is strong. Not quite fully struck up on the hairbuns and at CE in CENT. Called MS65 choice and tied for CC#1 in the Noyes census, his photo #35343. Bland says MS65 and tied for CC#2. Our grade is MS64. PCGS Population 1; 1 finer in 66RB.
Estimated Value $6,000-UP.
Ex A Mark MBS 6/10/74:97-Jerry A. Bobbe 12/4/74-C. Douglas Smith. (Comes with a handwritten note from Ted discussing this cent and how it compared to the following lot, which he felt was slightly the better of the two coins. We agree.).

Realized $12,075
