Lot 634

1812 S-289 R1. VF-35 Plus. Turban Head. Large Date. Lustrous olive and medium steel. Virtually flawless with the eye appeal of a significantly higher grade (which it may deserve). A small rim nick over star 7, a barely visible nick in the field before the forelock, a very tiny planchet flake at the dentils over the N in UNITED, and a trio of microscopic pinpricks under the ribbon loop at the bottom of the reverse are the only defects, and they are wholly insignificant. Very close to EF40. LDS, Breen state IV. Removed from an NCS slab graded AU details, improperly cleaned (NCS label included, and it shows the attribution and Reiver provenance). How anyone came up with the "improperly cleaned" assessment is a mystery to this cataloger.
Estimated Value $1,500 - 2,000.
Ex Stack’s 5/22/48:253-Henry C. Hines-Willard C. Blaisdell 2/8/71-Jules Reiver, Heritage 1/24/06:19650.

Realized $1,840
