1812 S-289 R1. VF-25. Turban Head. Large Date. Five points sharper with traces of microscopic roughness in protected areas, mostly under star 13 and on the reverse. No verdigris and the only contact marks are a tiny pinprick over the right end of the line below CENT and another under the line on the same end. Frosty chocolate and steel. Extremely rare (according to Breen) EDS, Breen state I, with clear repunching on the date, strongest at the left top of the 2. An attractive Turban Head cent in spite of the minor defects. Removed from an NGC slab graded XF40 (NGC label included, and it shows the attribution).
Estimated Value $800 - 1,000.
Ex Delaware Valley Rare Coins 2/14/08.
