Lot 632

1812 S-288 R2. EF-45. Turban Head. Large Date. Frosty steel and chocolate brown with lustrous lighter steel brown toning in protected areas, especially on the reverse. The fields and protected areas are satiny and the eye appeal is excellent. No corrosion or verdigris, and the only notable marks are a dull, light nick in the field right of star 4 and a patch of microscopic roughness caused by debris on the die in the field left of stars 10-12. E-MDS, Breen state II. The obverse is slightly misaligned to K-1 while the reverse is nearly centered on the planchet. An attractive cent that comes with an impressive provenance.
Estimated Value $3,000 - 4,000.
Ex Henry A. Sternberg, M. H. Bolender 3/56:1608-Dorothy Paschal (via Ray Chatham 1977)-R. S. Brown, Jr., 9/30/86:426-Wes Rasmussen, Heritage 1/13/05:3350.
