Lot 626

1810 S-284 R3. VG-8. Turban Head. Obverse Brockage. Rather glossy chocolate brown with darker steel brown and olive toning in protected areas. The obverse surfaces are decent but do show uniform extremely fine granularity in the fields and protected areas. The reverse, however, is smooth. No verdigris and only a few contact marks, including a dull dent or depression in the hair under ER in LIBERTY and a few dull, light rim nicks on both sides. An obverse brockage impression. The planchet was inserted normally but the previously struck cent was not ejected from the press. The obverse of the new planchet was then struck normally while the reverse was impressed into the obverse of the cent that was stuck in the press, thereby leaving an incuse impression of the obverse on the "reverse" side of the new planchet. The normal and incuse impressions are not rotated (they line up perfectly), and the incuse impression is strong. A neat mint error.
Estimated Value $600 - 800.
Ex Tom Reynolds.
