Lot 614

1808 S-277 R2. Fine-15. Turban Head. Glossy chocolate brown with lighter medium brown covering the protected areas of the reverse. The obverse is several shades darker than the reverse, possibly due to the obverse being lightly cleaned and attractively retoned. Otherwise this cent is close to VF20. The surfaces are smooth, free of any hint of corrosion or verdigris, and the eye appeal is excellent. Only a few minor contact marks, including a small pinprick in the field between star 2 and the neck and a light rim nick at star 5. E-MDS, Breen state IV. The first star is still strong but there is significant swelling at the rim over TAT. The obverse is slightly misaligned to K-8 while the reverse is properly centered on the planchet.
Estimated Value $400 - 600.
Ex Jonathan Kern 9/23/94.
