Lot 569

1796 S-85 R5-. Fine-15. Liberty Cap. Glossy chocolate and olive brown blending to darker chocolate in protected areas. Smooth, corrosion-free surfaces showing only a few trivial marks. These include a tiny planchet chip in the field under the cap, a diagonal nick over the E in ONE, and a collection of tiny planchet chips around ONE CENT, as struck. EDS, Breen state I. Strongly struck on the upper half of the obverse and lower half of the reverse with some weakness on the lower obverse and upper reverse thanks to dies that did not have their faces in perfect parallel alignment. ONE CENT is readable but relatively weak, as usual. Called VF25 net F15 and tied for CC#9 in the Noyes census, his photo #33126.
