Lot 549

1794 S-69 R3. Fine-15. Blundered 1 in date. Choice glossy chocolate brown very delicately woodgrained with a slightly lighter shade of brown. A tiny pinprick under the E in LIBERTY, a small planchet chip under TE in STATES, and a few faint, very old hairline scratches through ON and EN in ONE CENT are the only marks on otherwise flawless surfaces. The obverse grades VF20 but the reverse is a bit weaker and grades only F12, hence the F15 overall assessment. MDS, Breen state II, with minor die clashmarks on both sides. The blundered 1 in the date (first punched upside down, then corrected) is obvious, and repunching at the right top of the adjacent 7 is clear.
Estimated Value $1,000 - 1,500.
Ex Stack's 9/05:507.

Realized $2,645
