Lot 548

1794 S-68 R5. Fine-15. Five points sharper but covered with small nicks, strongest inside the wreath. Otherwise the surfaces are smooth, free of any trace of corrosion or verdigris. Glossy olive and chocolate brown. LDS. The bisecting obverse die failure is strong with the fields above the crack clearly on a higher plain than the lower fields. The date is bold and the legends are strong. An important example of this rare die variety in spite of the contact marks.
Estimated Value $3,000-UP.
Ex Hollinbeck/Kagin 5/5/56:63-Edward Schwartz, Abe Kosoff 10/11/61:78-Fred H. Borcherdt 3/95.

Realized $5,750
