Lot 534

1794 S-56 R3. VF-25. The so-called "Office Boy Reverse" variety due to the irregular placement of the letters and devices on that side. Glossy chocolate brown with darker olive toning on the reverse highpoints. The hair details suggest a slightly higher grade, but the fields show many tiny pre-striking planchet chips, strongest on the upper part of the obverse and the lower left of the reverse at UNI and the fraction. The area at UNI is weakly struck, which accounts for the abnormal amount of planchet chips in that area since the dies were not pressed together with enough pressure to squeeze out the tiny planchet imperfections. No corrosion, verdigris, or notable contact marks. EDS, Breen state I.
Estimated Value $2,000 - 2,500.
Ex Spinks 9/82:248-Del Bland 3/83-Jack H. Robinson-Wes Rasmussen 4/2000.

Realized $5,750
