Lot 472

1839 N-14 R3 PCGS graded MS63BN. PCGS graded MS-63 Brown. Booby Head. Glossy light chocolate and steel brown. The fields are satiny and cartwheel luster shows through the glossy toning. No spots or stains and only a few microscopic marks, including a tiny pinprick right of star 2. Several fine lines on the cheek of this variety could be confused with scratches, but they are raised lines from fine scratches on the die. MDS with microscopic radial die flowlines in the fields but the short bar down from the dentils over the upright of the R in AMERICA is clear. Nicely struck with full radial lines in all the stars except for #7, and the dentils are well defined all the way around both sides. Called MS60+ and tied for CC#4 in the Bland census. Noyes says MS60 net AU55, his photo #20728. Our grade is MS60. PCGS Population 1; 1 finer in 66BN.
Estimated Value $1,500-UP.
