Lot 471

1839 N-14 R3 PCGS graded MS66BN. PCGS graded MS-66 Brown. Booby Head. Frosty steel and olive brown faded down from mint color with faded original red showing through in the fields, especially on the reverse where at least a third of that side displays faded original red. This cent is a solid gem except for a dull nick or shallow scuff in the field close to the browlock. There are numerous fine raised die lines on the cheek from microscopic scratches on the die, as always on this variety. MDS. Nicely struck, only a couple of the stars fail to show full radial lines and all the dentils are well defined. The short bar down from the dentils over the upright of the R in AMERICA is clear. Called MS65 and tied for CC#1 in the Noyes census, his photo #21603. Bland says MS65 and CC#3. Our grade is MS64. PCGS Population 1; none finer.
Estimated Value $3,000-UP.
