1837 N-9 R1 PCGS graded MS65RB. PCGS graded MS-65 Red & Brown. Beaded Hair Cord, Head of 1838. Choice lustrous bluish steel brown and light chocolate with at least 15% of the original mint red showing. The surfaces are satiny and the eye appeal is excellent, but there is a faint hairline scratch from the chin to the curl on the cheek plus a small spot of dark toning at the dentils right of star 8 and another under the left side of the O in OF. E-MDS with the single obverse die crack described for the preceding example plus a crack on the reverse from the dentils over the A in STATES to the wreath under the adjacent T where it meanders along the wreath and ends in the leaf just right of the F in OF. Called MS63 and tied for CC#1 in the Noyes census, his photo #20724. Bland says MS65 and tied for CC#2. Our grade is MS63+. PCGS Population 2; none finer .
