Lot 349

1836 N-2 R2 PCGS graded MS65BN. PCGS graded MS-65 Brown. Lustrous light chocolate blending to medium chocolate on the reverse where there are hints of light bluish steel overtones in the fields. The obverse is very delicately mottled with tiny wisps of darker olive brown toning and both sides have peeps of faded mint color showing through the toning, especially on the reverse. The only meaningful marks are a fine hairline scratch from the bust tip through the 6 in the date to the dentils below star 13 and a tiny rim nick at the bottom of the reverse. LDS with the final die crack down through the second S in STATES to the wreath below. The bold spike added to the right foot of the T in CENT during this marriage is obvious. A series of unpublished tiny rim cud breaks from star 13 clockwise to under the 83 show on this example. Called MS60+ and tied for CC#3 in the Bland census. Noyes says MS60 net AU55, his photo #20905. Our grade is MS60. PCGS Population 1; none finer.
Estimated Value $800-UP.
Ex C. David Pierce, Abe Kosoff 11/17/48.
