Lot 348

1836 N-2 R2 PCGS graded MS64BN. PCGS graded MS-64 Brown. Lustrous medium brown with bluish steel overtones on the obverse and traces of slightly faded mint red in the protected areas on both sides. The fields are satiny and are affected by only a few trivial marks, including a faint diagonal hairline scratch under the chin and a speck of carbon right of the bottom edge of the D in UNITED. LDS. The die crack down through the second S in STATES is present and both dies have been lapped to reduce minor roughness leaving the legends and devices in slightly lower relief. Called MS60+ and tied for CC#3 in the Bland census. Noyes says MS60 net AU55 and tied for CC#14, his photo #21206. Our grade is MS60+. PCGS Population 3; 1 finer in 65BN.
Estimated Value $500-UP.
