Lot 341

1835 N-15 R2 PCGS graded MS65BN. PCGS graded MS-65 Brown. Head of 1836. Lustrous bluish steel brown with slightly faded mint red covering at least 10% of the planchet, mostly on the obverse. The only marks are a small splash of darker toning at the dentils over star 9, a fine horizontal hairline in the field before the nose, and a faint hairline scratch at the left end of the line under CENT. The surfaces are satiny and offer excellent eye appeal. MDS. The fields are flowlined on both sides and the small chip defect under the right side of the 3 is faint but visible. There is a clear double profile on the forehead, upper lip, and chin, plus minor doubling on a couple of the stars (all from die bounce). Softly struck on the browlock and along the front edge of the nose. Called MS65 and CC#1 in the Bland census. Noyes says MS63 and tied for CC#1, his photo #28777. Our grade is MS63. PCGS Population 1; none finer.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.
Ex Del Bland 8/69-C. Douglas Smith-Del Bland-Jerry A. Bobbe 9/75-Myles Z. Gerson-Stanley Kesselman 7/80.
