Lot 331

1835 N-10 R4+ PCGS graded AU58. PCGS graded AU-58. Head of 1834 with Small 8 and Stars. Glossy chocolate and light olive brown woodgrained with medium brown on the obverse. Generous traces of faded mint red show in protected areas on the reverse. The surfaces are smooth and free of any notable marks. Early die state. The die crack from the browlock up toward star 6 is faint and reaches only up to even with the top of the coronet. In addition, the high grade of this example allows you to see that the E in CENT was first punched upside down with bold remnants of the inverted E clearly visible. Called AU50 and CC#1 by 10 points in the Noyes census, his photo #20863. Bland says AU50 as well but finest by a whopping 20 points in his census. Our grade is AU50. PCGS Population 1; none finer.
Estimated Value $4,000-UP.
Ex J. Paul Scheetz 8/76 (as "A-3")-Del Bland 6/2/77.
