Lot 312

1835 N-2 R3 PCGS graded MS64BN. PCGS graded MS-64 Brown. Head of 1834 with Small 8 and Stars. Lustrous dark chocolate and olive brown with delicate overtones of bluish steel on both sides and hints of underlying very faded mint color showing through on the reverse. The fields are satiny and the eye appeal is excellent. The only mark is a tiny, barely visible speck of darker toning over the left edge of the O in ONE. Nicely struck E-MDS. The repunching at UN is sharp, including the complete arc inside the bottom of the U. The die cut across the cheek is bold. Called MS63 and tied for CC#1 in the Bland census. Noyes says MS60 net AU50 and tied for CC#4, his photo #21868. Our grade is MS62+, close to MS63. PCGS Population 2; none finer.
Estimated Value $3,000-UP.
Ex Barney Bluestone 2/16/1946:741-Dr. Kenneth J. Sartoris-Del Bland-C. Douglas Smith-Jerry A. Bobbe 9/75-Myles Z. Gerson 7/80.
