Lot 299

1834 N-2 R1 PCGS graded MS66BN. PCGS graded MS-66 Brown. Small 8, Large Stars, Medium Letters. Strong Double Profile. Lustrous light chocolate and olive with bluish steel overtones on the reverse and faded mint color showing in the protected areas on both sides. Excellent eye appeal and no notable marks. A microscopic planchet chip (as struck) over the left top of the E in ONE is a good identifying mark, but you need a good glass to find it. MDS with only a few of the tiny spikes from the dentils under the date and star 1 still visible, and they are considerably shorter than they were in the early die state. A strong double profile extends from the forelock down to the chin (from die bounce). Called MS65 choice and tied for CC#1 in the Noyes census, his photo #21166. Bland says MS63 and tied for CC#2. Our grade is MS63. PCGS Population 3; none finer.
Estimated Value $2,000-UP.
Ex B. Max Mehl personal collection-T. James Clarke 10/54.
