Lot 290

1833 N-6 R1 PCGS graded MS65RD. PCGS graded MS-65 Red. Bright original mint red just starting to fade to steel brown on the highpoints, about 80% of the original color remaining. The only marks are a few microscopic specks of darker toning sprinkled over the obverse, the largest of these on the R in LIBERTY, and a couple shallow planchet laminations under the wreath, as struck. Great eye appeal in spite of the minor flaws. One of only a very few PCGS graded "RED" cents in this fabulous collection. M-LDS with two die cracks through the lower half of the N in UNITED. The reverse is rotated 30 degrees CW. Called MS70- and finest known in the Bland census. Noyes says MS65 and tied for CC#2, his photo #21614. Our grade is MS66. PCGS Population 1; none finer.
Estimated Value $7,500-UP.
Ex Dr. George P. French, B. Max Mehl 1929 FPL 526-T. James Clarke 10/54.
