Lot 288

1833 N-5 R1 PCGS graded MS65RB. PCGS graded MS-65 Red & Brown. Repunched 8, the so-called "Horned 8." Lustrous mint red blending to bluish steel and olive brown, about a third of the original color remaining on each side. A speck of dark toning hidden in the hair under star 7, a very faint hairline from just before the eye down to the cheek, and another arcing hairline in the field before the mouth are the notable marks, but none is distracting. Excellent eye appeal. M-LDS with the repunching on the 8 weaker but still clear. The reverse is rotated 40 degrees CW. Called MS63 and tied for CC#8 in the Noyes census, his photo #21562. Our grade is MS64. PCGS Population 2; none finer .
Estimated Value $2,000-UP.
Ex Loye L. Lauder, William Doyle Galleries 12/15/83:420.
