Lot 285

1833 N-5 R1 PCGS graded MS64BN. PCGS graded MS-64 Brown. Repunched 8, the so-called "Horned 8." Lustrous light to medium golden brown with hints of darker olive tones mixed in at stars 8-11 and specks of similar toning sprinkled over the upper reverse. A small spot of dark olive toning nestled into the depression under the lower lip is a good identifying mark. Sharply struck EDS with all the fine die finishing lines clearly defined and the repunching on the 8 crisp. The repunching on ICA is very sharp. A planchet clip affects the dentils at star 7 and the opposing ones at the stem tip, as struck. Called S63 and tied for CC#8 in the Noyes census, his photo #36401. Our grade is MS62. PCGS Population 2; none finer.
Estimated Value $500-UP.
Ex Robert Marks, Bowers & Ruddy 11/72:791-Jack Collins, Bowers & Ruddy 10/7/77:910.
