Lot 271

1831 N-14 R4 PCGS graded MS64BN. PCGS graded MS-64 Brown. Large Letters Reverse. Lustrous steel brown and chocolate with traces of faded mint red on the obverse. The only marks are a shallow, faint planchet chip on the jaw, as struck, and a very faint horizontal hairline high above the N in ONE. Nicely struck MDS with full radial lines in all the stars. Called MS60+ and CC#1 in the Bland census. Noyes says AU55 and tied for CC#1 honors with the preceding lot, his photo #27102. Our grade is MS60. In our opinion and that of Del Bland, this is the only mint state example of the variety known today. PCGS Population 1; none finer.
Estimated Value $3,000-UP.
Ex David Bland Galleries FPL 5/84-J. R. Grellman, Jr.-John J. Nicholas, Superior 2/2/92:567.
