Lot 262

1831 N-11 R2 PCGS graded MS64BN. PCGS graded MS-64 Brown. Small Letters Reverse. Frosty light to medium brown with a hint of darker bluish steel and light chocolate toning on the portrait down to star 1 and overtones of light bluish steel in protected areas on the reverse. A tiny vertical streak of darker toning caused by a planchet impurity at the right point of star 3 and a couple microscopic contact marks over the E in CENT are the best identifying marks, but none of these is at all significant. MDS with the usual fine die crack passing through the tops of ATES-OF-A plus an extension up to the dentils from just left of the first T in STATES. A fine double profile from die bounce shows on the front edge of the coronet, browlock, lips, and chin. Called MS63 and CC#1 in the Bland census. Noyes says MS63 and tied for CC#2, his photo #20928. Our grade is MS63. PCGS Population 1; none finer.
Estimated Value $800-UP.
Ex Dr James O. Sloss, Abe Kosoff 10/21/59:181-Emanuel Taylor 10/60.
